Yoga Styles

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is a style that incorporates flexibility and strength. The primary elements of the practice are yoga poses (asanas) and breath control; There are eight elements, or "limbs," involved in the full enjoyment of the discipline - The "eight limbs" of Hatha yoga

Zen Yoga

The emphasis of Zen yoga is on physical alignment, energy flow in the body and mindful awareness. The maintenance of a healthy body and flexibility is crucial because the mind-body are seen as one

Chakra Yoga

Chakra yoga is an energy balancing yoga practice that works to activate the energy centers along the spine (the chakras). It is a type of Kundalini yoga that activates the lower chakras and opens the upper chakras

Yoga Philosophy

YOGA PHILOSOPHY

The meaning of the word yoga is 'Union' and refers to uniting the mind, body and spirit as one in order to connect with our true self. Yoga originated in India over 6,000 years ago and the practice of yoga consists of physical and mental disciplines that help us to become healthy, alert and more aware of our thoughts and therefore more mindful. The yoga postures or as they are called in yoga - Asanas, exercise every part of the body, stretching and toning the muscles and joints as well as stimulating the internal organs glands and nerves. Yoga ultimately releases physical and mental tension and creates a huge amount of energy in the body.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow paced meditative version of yoga. In Yin yoga, the poses are held for a long period of time (typically three to five minutes) to target the ligaments and get deeper into the muscle tissue

Flow Yoga

Flow yoga is a graceful style of yoga. Each movement is made on an inhalation or exhalation, so the yoga unites the breath with the movement in a mandala sequence. The flowing movements are sometimes combined with longer holds of certain postures

Meditation

Meditation involves concentration and relaxation both of which are enhanced by yoga. There are a variety of ways to meditate. The first stage of meditation is to find a focal point or method of focusing on such as the breath in order to become mindful and free from distractions
